My little horse is currently had eggbars fitted to help his heels at mo, and whilst farrier was fitten them, as a throw away comment he remarked that it could have up to a 20% improvement on his performance.

Me being a very doubting thomas said 'Oh right'

But knock me down with a feather, took him jumping and there was a defo improvement in the way horse went? Don't know whether it's rider (me) had my get on with it head or that the shoes where helping him that much????? or a combination of shoes and my attitude but it was defo and big improvement

Has any one else had expereince like this???? cos the change was dramatic

you don't say what the prob is with his heels, but my sisters horse has sidebone and contracted front feet (he's 16.1 and his feet look like he's borrowed them from a 14h pony) and when he had eggbars on he was much better as it relieved the pressure on his (then rather sore) heels. he's always jumped for fun, but he was flying.

One of mine is like this- we changed his shoes last year from Rolled toes to a slight variation on the N/Balance shoe with 1/4 clips and noticed a big difference in his performance!-
IMO The type of shoe can have a definate effect on the horses comfort and way of going- the Eggbar will lift and support the heel so he was probably more comfortable!. Its good news that he is obviously feeling better with them!..

i hope it's a temp thing, but being part TB with flat feet and summer not be good to his feet

Yes, I changed to eggbars earlier this year (for navicular changes) and it was like riding a different horse! Must be why the farrier charges so much for them...

yes they are expensive but give my farrier his due he was there longer. Plus we did have long chat about best course of action, plus i got drawing lesson

I was that happy with change of performance even phone farrier to let him know and thank him for his work
