Have you heard of soft claws for cats? ?

I was reading a book on cats in the library today and it mentioned soft claws. Looked them up on Amazon and am horrified. They are soft vinyl covers that you glue ? onto your cats claws to stop them scratching the furniture. Needless to say I think they derived from America.

Some of the comments on Amazon were about their cat trying to chew them off - well what do you expect? ?

I've always thought this.. why do people think it's acceptable to do anything to an animal that they wouldn't do to their own child (within reason obviously).
Would they slice of half their childs ears to make them look better? Glue permanent mittens on their hands to make sure the don't pick up something they shouldnt'. Tie a shock collar on them to stop them from going up the stairs unsupervised? Madness!
