Well i have to say i have had the worst year this year. I dont post often but im so fed up. Has anyone ridden with any broken bones in curious as i have fractured my wrist but its not too bad (obviously not good!!) but after the season I have had i cant bear not to be riding. Beat this

2 horse
1 10 year old had nearly 3 month off with injury before had been given time off from comp as wasnt going well all down to injury so has been given all clear 2 weeks ago
1 4 year old (newby as sold other in spring) who was backed only when purchased so he had just had lots of work which has been fun but with many ups and down.

bear in mind in used to working 2 horse everyday for years and competing on weekends

I go away on holiday and came back last week ready to bring my mare back into work and my 4 year old is doing his first HT (more than ready now!) on monday i went to GX to take him clear round jumping. Thought id pop him round 2ft 6" to show him the ropes (never seen sj ring before) small and effort less for him. But due to how many people were skidding and stopping when we went to go over the jump he slipped stumbled and fell over with me on top! hence the wrist.
he ok but getting osteo next qeek to give him once over.

Im able to lunge ok as hand is ok but have comp in 3 weeks I cant bear to have to pull out another one and most people say i be ok as its nothing too much (the comp!!) and was told 4 weeks to heal for my wrist

Will welcome anyone comments/ oppinons/ experiences!

You have my sympathy as I'm sat hgere in plaster on my leg. Play it by ear I suspect with a wrist you may be able to get away with doing something in 3 weeks but do listen to what your body is telling you it is no point having another fall or injury or worse ride badly because the wrist isn't strong enough.

I rode roughly 3 weeks after a broken collar bone but that wasn't a joint and I did ride gently for the first week or so.

yes I have with a minor fracture but I only rode 1 handed and didn't used the fractured wrist at all. Lucky it was LH fracture and I'm Rhanded.

didn't ride my own horse - did a swap and rode friends bombproof horse whilst she rode mine to keep him ticking over as he wouldn't have been trustworthy one handed.

Agreed am sooooo fed up. I have bought a splint for when i do ride. Thought id leave it till next week then cast will be off (im replacing it with a splint) and see.

Its stopped swelling and less painful. that must be a good sign?

Hadnt thought of that. Am only taking Ibuprofen as its not too bad. Im quite tough i suppose. i broke my ankle and tendon a couple of years ago and only took 6 weeks instaed of 10 i was first quoted.

how did you hurt your leg?

Come off at Stockland Lovell HT landed on my feet but ankle and leg went resulting in a week in hospital plate pins etc. Unfortnatly while ankle has heeled leg is still not!

I rode with broken wrist, It was silly but never mind, I only held the rein in left hand lightly as didnt want to do any damage but I was fine horse at the time looked after me thank god.

Yes I rode with a fractured wrist had it all strapped up even competed had to buy a larger set of gloves I was in a wrist strap rather than plaster (i am alergic to it) so was lucky

poor you. How much long have you got to wait, It toom a while for me to get my lower leg strength back when i did mine

Have had an awful year. My youngster seems ok, Bless him not the best start at SJ, I could kick myself as i only took hm as i was taking my daughter to practice and thought it was a good chance to show him around.

I rather stupidly (thinking back

) started riding 2 days after fracturing my elbow and ripping it open, just rode one armed

the plaster should have come off Tues after 6 and a half weeks I now have to wait at least another 2 weeks and see specilist again and they will decide if heeling, needs another op or longer in plaster. Foot and leg is already weak and I don't want to leave it too much longer.

Ok you have all helped me decide I feel i can ride so will after the weekend, My mare will look after me, my 4 year old can have a coupe of weeks on the lunge and anyway hes off till the weekend atleat to make sure his is ok (he was a bit stiff and sore but is ok now)

Have got splint, large gloves and 100% determination!!

along with the fact alot of money in entires to loose, will post once i have done the comp, its only a HT but its easy as no drops ditches etc my babys 1st run in a comp

I used to circle my ankle in the plaster as it was loose then after lots of walking (in sea water if you have access)
Also magnetic wraps help, i do swear by them

Fingers crossed 4 u too

Yes I fractured my elbow over xmas, and was still riding every day, could only use right arm though and Im left handed.

It was silly I suppose as I was hacking out too and Lance can be a bit silly sometimes, luckily he was good but my arm did ache from the few times I had to use it.

Never again!

Yes - fell off doing Cross Country. Chipped a bone in my ankle got back on and rode back to the trailer, went to hospital that afternoon. Was back on board riding my horse in two days with swollen ankle and ankle brace. Bloody idiot!! Don't think I would do it again definately losing my nerve as I'm getting older!

I broke my right wrist after being kicked in November last year. I took it steady for the first couple of days and then started exercising the horses again avoiding riding and leading!!

I went hunting quite a few times with the wrist in cast because I felt safe knowing it was protected. I felt more concerned about it when the cast had been removed and felt it was more susceptible to getting broken again!!

I wouldn't worry too much - wrists heal quite easily!!

ive ridden with a) broken coxis (most painful thing ever) b) dislocated shoulder (riding was perfect position but tacking up / poo picking wasnt) and finally c) 4 weeks after a full hysterectomy (that was just plain stupid but i hasten to add i was made to stay in school and on lead rope)!!
