Neither of mine have been one night this year without a rug on. (all be it some nights they have just had summer sheets on, but they stil havent been naked, and wont be now!) They are during the day tho
My TB has a lightweight rug on in the day and comes in at night as it's too miserable to leave her out - every night when the weather is like this she charges up to the fence when she sees me and starts weaving! Bless her, she hates the rain!
My WB isn't being rugged when he goes out but only goes out for a few hours in the day though.
solo, my TB was wearing a LW through the day then a MW (280g) at night, but due to the rain and his mud fever i have bought him in for the last 3 nights.
red, bf's horse is wearing a LW at night now, and as soon as he gets one he will be wearing a MW at night. (hes 17)
i have just played it day to day,he has been having his lighweight on at night, just incase it rains really,as the temp has dropped sooo much in the eves!!joys of british weather!!
My two were rugged up last night in their lw rugs and i'm so glad i did because it totally pi**ed down last night. The mornings and evenings already have that chill in the air that we normally get in late september.
God ive had rugs on off on off all summer - most of them havent had rugs on at night but they are in a barn which is nice and cosy - but during the day they have there lightweight's on !!
My field ponies being one at 22yo, a 2yo and a broodmare had there rugs on last night - been trying to get them on for a few days but the rain never let let them dry enough !!!
My girls are usually summer nudists, but not this year here in Glos! They have been rugged nearly all summer (I've managed to get the aqualung and flippers off them recently though
My lad hates getting wet and feels the cold easily(being a thin skinned Welshie x- cough!) so he's been rugged more often than not this summer (either in 70g LW or unlined summer T/O). Left his rug off last night as it had been a gorgeous day and no rain was forecast for overnight or this morning. HA bloody HA- woke up this morning to howling winds and torrential downpour. Talk about being a bad mummy. He was out in his field, shivering, soaked through and miserable as sin. I towelled him off and have left him in his full neck 70g rug, tucking into a bucket of chaff quite happy. He prefers to be out but starts shivering as soon as the first drops of rain start and stops as soon as there's a rug on his back! Definitely knows what side his bread's buttered on!!!
you lot are making me feel very guilty, apart from flooding days mine have been rugless at nite for ages.....
but they come in every day away from flys but coats are defo on turn. But they are lovely and warm
in morning when i have to wake them up in field and drag then into their stables for breakfast
so much summer grass - way to chilled roll on winter
I feel guitly too, i haven't had a rug near my girl since May!!! I better not tell her that other horses are being kept warm in nice rugs while she is stood out 24/7 naked!!!
Mine hasnt had a rug on since March. He is a horse with fur and oils in his coat that keep him waterproof.
In the winter he has a light weight to keep the frost and snow off.
At the end of the day, they are horses !!!!!
My TB is rugged 24hrs, cant take the risk of him losing any condition. Am thinking about going up from a LW to MW. Feels a bit daft doing this in August, but Charlie is a shiverer, who is very good at losing condition
Mine has a summer sheet on during the day and a thin stable rug on at night. When out, he has a thin showerproof rug on (as he is only out for a couple of hours).
Just been looking at the one month weather forecast and they say that it pretty much rain, rain, rain forever more!
My mare hates the rain, starts shivering at least bit of rain, got her in a LW turnout at Mo but thinking of going up to a MW as she has felt cold under her rug the last few days, weather is weird it is more like October at the moment definate chill in the air
