anyway

As a kid, I always wondered how you could have more than one horse/pony as i didnt think id be able to love them the same and would have favourites

But now, maybe Its because I no longer have one of my own, I can totally see myself having more than one, and tbh, would prefer more than one...

was just wondering if anyone else used to think they wouldnt be able to have more than one horse, or do you still think that?

When I lived at home with my parents I only ever had one pony and had to do jobs to earn money towards it's keep...we had other horses too for my Dad, sister etc but only one each. I then did not have a horse again until I was 30 and would only ever have one at a time unless something happened whereby I could not ride my current horse but he was kept retired or as a companion...then I might consider another one. But I have always been very much a one horse person and like to put everything into one.

When I was in my teens riding to me was very much about the competition (riding other people's horses). I always respected horses but I didn't dote on them like I do now. Having waited so long to get my own horse he is like part of the family, and it is more about spending time with him and looking after him than the riding now.

I've got three...and treat them all equally well/badly depending on your point of view.
I'm most attached to my old mare (well I've had her for 14 years and spent hours and hours riding her)...and worry most about her.
But the other two are both very much 'mine' and I have time and appreciation for all of them.
I do genuinely like horses though, which not all horse owners seem to....if you understand me?

I've got 6. They all have very different personalities and are an endless source of amusement and fascination. They are a very chilled bunch, but whether that is because I am very laid-back or I just go for laid-back horses, I don't know! I, too, have a genuine love of horses - I am not that interested in riding (although I do plod about on a couple of them), but am far more interested in their wellbeing. I am lucky that I have them at home, so spend a lot of time with them.

Not really. I have 2 adult mares - like chalk and cheese, but I love them both dearly. Also have 2 youngsters. Trying not to love them too much as I have to sell them (Failing - they're such great characters). The only way my attitude has changed is that I wish I had appreciated my first horse more. I was very new to it and didn't realise just what a sweet-tempered, bombproof character she was. Thought they were all like that! Now I know.

You can and will love any number of horses or any other creature that depends on you - just ask your Mum or Dad (if you have siblings that is). The difficulty is the time you have to put into them.

Not really because I had 2 ponies at the same time as a child so I "loved" them the same even though they were very different.

I now own something like 20 horses and I like all of them; some I am far more fond of than others; and a couple of them I would push the boat out and say I love them.

What I do know now that I didn't know as a child is that once you have had many horses you find out that you don't actually love them all. There are most definitely extra-special ones and lesser ones.
