Although I can afford the way things are atm I've been thinking about making a change to save a bit of money (meaning I can pay off a few debts quicker and start saving for a lorry)
Bay pony can go back to his owner any time, he's here to grow up, get some handling etc and keep my mare company.
Pony mare is 3yo in August, not mature enough to break this year and I'm far too heavy to back her atm (I'm about 10st and she's about 13.2hh atm).
Cob pony is on loan and fab, 4yo and mid backing atm, I'm worried about how much hacking I'm going to be able to do as we're on our own where I am and he's not great with cars. He is coming on really well with once/twice weekly sessions. I'm in now rush and once it gets drier I can school in the field but I don't like too much schooling with babies.
I see my options as:
staying as is (£150pm for my own place), cut down to two for next winter and persevere slowly with cob pony....he does need to hack alone eventually and I'm not bothered by walking with him and riding parts etc but I do want to hack properly and I'm worried about having no company to ride with and about doing too much schooling.
cut down to two and look for a yard so I can have a school and people to ride with but it will cost for (£50pw for two + hay etc).
Find someone in need of a companion and offer pony mare, cut down to one and do the above (so £25pw + hay etc). If I do go down to one, I would be wanting pony mare back as a 4yo to back anyway.
Although I'm a loanee, I'm a bit wary of sending pony mare far or to someone I don't know as there are so many horror stories and she's a bit 'special' so I worry about all my hard work being undone in gaining her trust etc.
Is it that bad to do more schooling with a baby? OH thinks I'm being daft and should stay put, go down to two and just take a bit longer with cob pony.
