Having an off day maybe???

Just had a little phonecall from my livery yard that the ned has been the naughtiest ever today - planting and rearing full height when ridden. At the weekend i did start feeding him Baileys everyday cubes gradually as his paddock is a bit bare as he is a bit on the leaner side.

Does anyone think the feed/ spring grass could be causing this? He has never ever reared, but did have a few bucks the other day when i rode him.

He wouldnt lead on the hack, and refused to move at a bridge and was generally spooky.

Hes had teeth done 3 weeks ago, saddle done 2 weeks ago and back is fine. The groom also said he was a little poop to put out as well after his ride.

He has been going really well too

It could be the feed, my mum's horse got really mean and aggressive when we got some 'cool pellets' to try and put on a bit of weight. He is normally the most even tempered, laid back horse you can find. Other horses on the same pellets were fine.
We have since found tha in geneal he doesn't react well to highly processed feeds ie pellets/cubes but is fine on straight grain mixes.
Crushed maize, sugarbeet, and good quality lucerne hay are good untreated options for putting on weight.

Having said that if he has only be getting them for a few days it is a bit of a quick response. I would consider other factors, like did the rider upset him? (as it sounds like it wasn't you) or something else at the yard?
Or he could just have gotten out of the wrong side of bed this morning....hope he settles.
