having back checked...

getting taras back checked as there is something not quite right with her when she jumps...

would it be better to get a vet or a specialist "back person" out?

actually i had better get her teeth checked while im at it

again, a horse dentist or a vet?

i guess if i got a vet they could do both..but as they as good as specialist people?

The best back people only take veterinary referals, so i'd get your vet out first.

As for the dentist, i'd go with a specialist dental technition - they're more experienced and better trained. You'll need a vet too though if the horse needs sedating! Lots of bills coming your way! Hope she's ok.

apparently, it is illegal to use a physio or chiropracter without a vet referal so get your vet out to check her back 1st. I will always use an equine dentist over a vet for teeth checks as their training is much more in detail.

Vet told me she could see nothing wrong with Jim's back following a couple of bad falls but as soon as I got on him I knew something was very wrong. Got a back lady out & it was more a case of noting down which areas were right! He was a lot better the next time he was ridden so it obviously helped him.

Make sure you get a reputable back person if you go for that option, IMHO, a lot of them are a con.

Check with your vet first and back person to make sure that you don't need a referal. And like BB2 said get one with a good reputation as some are con artists.

It is certainly NOT illegal to get a chiropracter out to a horse without a vet referal. You will find that a chiropractor will know more about backs than most vets. Providing they are fully qualified you will find that they have to be qualified to work on humans before they can go anywhere near a horse.

I know one good back lady in the area (my ex's mum, which is abit strange but hey), she did my old ponies back and was really good, so will have to give her a call.

BB2, when she jumps she really hollows her back and chucks her head up (over the fence) as if in pain. she didnt used to do this and nothing has changed so am going down the "in pain" route.
