Would you call & have horse food delivered to your yard for your horse?
Or would you go to the shop to buy it.
I have been thinking of delivering food to yards for poeple who find it hard to get to the shops because of work or other commitments.
I know the petrol charge might put some people off. I have to travel a good way out to get my food for my mare & at times I find it hard because of the time I have to go & get it. I get caught up in the traffic & it can take me up to 45 mins to get there & back :(

Any feed back would be great :)

All our local feed merchants deliver locally for no extra cost & as a result I bulk buy my haylage, shavings etc from them so only have a couple of deliveries which keeps me going through winter.

Just assumed they all did this - oops! :o

As GFP says, most local feed merchants will deliver for a bulk order. Don't think they would for a couple of bags of something but I don't think you'd be able to keep a delivery charge low enough to be attractive if you delivered small amounts.

I wish they were all like that. I asked the place where I go to if they would deliver my food & they said it would cost £15 even if it was for 1 bag. I was surprised as I don't have to buy big amounts of her food. When I have my haylage, the farmer doesn't charge me, but then I do have quite a lot of him in the winter.

My feed store deliver horse feed free if you spend over £50 with them, so I usually have mine delivered. As I have four horses at present and also buy hay/haylage from the feed merchants, it is easy to spend enough to get free delivery. Not sure I would pay a delivery fee unless it was very reasonable though.

Do the feedstores near you not offer feed dlelivery then? This is something to check out, as it would obviously reduce your business. Another problem is, that even if they don't offer delivery already, if they know you are doing it they are likely to start up their own delivery service in competition.

Just read your latest post and wondered if it is worth you getting together with several other local horseowners and get a bulk order of all your feed delivered to one of your yards.

I buy in Copra meal so have to have it delivered in fairly bulk quantities. In the past have done the same for bedding. I kind of assumed anybody who was buying significant quantities would do this anyway.

always have my feed delivered in. And no charge for doing so. Works well for me as I have 13 horses in to feed and it would take me an age to go and by all the stuff and bring it home and stack it. He turns up in his van and unloads it for me
