Having problems with my horse at shows

I love my horse, but I'm getting to the point with him where I feel like I have done almost all I can with him. He schools and works absolutely fab at home and he is great at his jumping but my main goal for him is showing, this is an area where at home he appears have a great deal of potential at but when we go to a show he can be such a pain. He rears, bucks, throws his head in the air and just becomes extremely strong. He has no problems when doing in hand classes, it isn't his tack, he loads in and out of the box well, he even often behaves extremely well in the warm up paddock but it usually just starts in the ring. I have been showing him for several years now and sometimes he can be great but its getting to the point where i'm not sure what else I can try or do with him; jumping makes him mad for several weeks, when he shows he is mad.. I am working with a trainer as well but has anybody got any similar problems or suggestions??

Thanks!!

Might be worth posting this in the lounge as not that many people come in here ;)

How is the horse when you take him away for lessons? Is he well behaved for other events like dressage? If so, perhaps its the going round together as a group he finds terribly exciting? If he's good at jumping, have you done working hunter? Is he just as badly behaved at that? If he's getting really strong, have you changed bit to see if that helps (for showing you're possibly in a pelham/double, is he still strong in this?). Might also be worth asking the trainer to go with you to a show to see if she can spot why he's doing it etc.?
