Does it really matter for everyday riding if your tack doesn't match? When I got Ethel I wanted all of her tack to be black and it was ... for a while. My bridle is black but I didn't like the reins that came with it so I bought new ones from a tack stall at a show, the guy told me they were black training reins (the ones with coloured rubber) but when I attached them to the bridle I realised they were brown. My saddle is black but doesn't fit so I'm going to sell it and buy a new one. My friend has a saddle she's happy to sell to me which will fit Ethel but its a dark havana colour apparently (I haven't seen it) So if I buy this saddle I will have a black bridle, brown/coloured reins and a havana saddle .. does it really matter

Unless you want to do showing then no. I compete BS and occasionaly dressage with different coloured tack although we do try and match but it doesn't always work that way :p

Like Persephone said, only if it bugs you :)

My everyday bridle is black and my saddle is brown, it bugs the hell out of me but not enough that I'm going to waste money on a new brown everyday bridle when there really is nothing wrong with the black one.

My competition bridle however is brown!

as the others have said, only if it REALLY bothers you!! for months I rode in different tack, eventually I changed it, but only because it wore out

It's something I always notice if I'm honest, but given that the saddle is almost completely obscured when riding, any I'm watching anything except the saddle if someone's jumping or getting a lesson in front of me, it pales into insignificance. That's even more the case when I'm on board and all I can see is the bridle!

It WILL annoy the hell out of me, but probably not enough to want to buy new tack :D I didn't think it would matter at all as long as it fits but I thought I'd ask incase people had something against it :p

Only if it bothers you! It is something I would notice.

Last year my loan gelding had a black bridle with a chunky brown noseband, both his reins were different lengths and widths which was annoying (one very long thin rein, and one very short fat rein!). His saddle was black with brown knee rolls and brown stirrup leathers.....but I still rode him and forgot all about it...even went to shows like it :)

His tack fit him and as he was a short term loan I wasn't prepared to go out and buy new tack, probably would have if it was my own just to match!

I don't think I'd have coped with the different reins :p And my stirrupleathers will be black .. I forgot about them :D

Doesn't matter to me at all, one of my bridles is various shades of brown with black reins. But it fits and the various bits are all really nice leather, the head piece is ancient and you can just make out from the makers mark it was made in Scotland. When I bought my two I got given lots of bits and pieces from mates to save me buying a new bridle :-)

Ahh the day Ethel is in full work, has stopped growing and I can afford to buy her all brand new matching beautiful leather tack can't come soon enough! But got a few years yet :D
