HAY 2011

I can see farmers getting two crops this year if it rains a little more. Quite a few fields around me have already been cropped (hay and hayledge).

We have too much this year, still not used last years have about over half left. We set a 3rd field a side as we thought we wouldn't have enough now we have too much and no were to put it. YO (Mother-in-law) is on about selling some when we hay.

loads of silage been cut my way, then noticed a pile of very green small bale hay out in a field, so guessing prob get 2 cuts if we have a tad more rain. (shame cant bale up weeds, i'd b loaded!!! they r takin over my grass despite weed killin in spring!!)

Hiya iv got haylage i sell it for 23 a bale got about 9000 bales to be cut so keep in contact with me if you run short .. Hay will be expensive we aint had the weather and its to much hastle to bale into small bales.. I am in south wales but delivery anywhere in uk is quite straightforward

I'm sure prices will go up whatever the reason, weather, fuel prices, e-coli outbreak.............

I think you can guarentee prices won't come down:mad:

Fields for miles around are busy getting thier in today.
My farmer supplier says no shortage for us, no price rise, maybe a bit of a price drop.
Smallest son is made up to see so many "tractor eggs"!!

Seeing my hay field is crap, as we had it sprayed off last Sept and reseeded and it didn't grow, had it reseeded in April no rain. No we will have no hay this year, but bought 2 bales of haylage and my 2 mares yesterday, either coughing badly or wheezing. I would say hay is going to be short this year and pricey, so I'm looking into managing them different through the winter.

I assume you mean they are getting haylage done and in as it has been raining the last couple of days - not much good for hay??!! I work on the Hants/Surrey border. Have noticed some on the way home who obviously started doing it Saturday and then it started raining Sunday and seem to have stopped - feel very sorry for them. And am not really surprised at the cost if you think of all the effort that goes into producing it, and the thought..... "shall we, shan't we?".... Hope the price goes down but bet it doesn't! :(

The farmer where i keep my horse is grinning from ear to ear as the haylage yield has been really good and the quality fantastic. Hay is being baled as i type and again it looks like the yield and the quality are both good. He is also hopeful of getting a 2nd cut but obviously this will be weather dependant. We are Nottinghamshire if that makes any difference.
