Is there any difference in ease of digestibility between course hay or fine hay?

I was always under the impression it is harder for a horse to digest course hay and thus it can make them bloated as oppose to eating fine hay. I always use fine hay for the little ones but my supplier has just lost 300 bales to fire so looks like im going to have to get some course hay so just wondered??

My lad has been fed on both and i can honestly say i have never noticed any difference(other than he chokes on the coarse stuff now and again as he dosnt chew it properly

,silly boy,lol)!!
I havnt heard there is any difference between the 2,some horses prefer the coarse,so maybe gorging on it is why it bloats them??

Don't know about bloating, but I know some just won't eat coarse hay. Coarse hay generally has a lower nutritional value as has less leaf and more stalk.
