Hi
maybe a silly question, but when I bring my horse into the stable prior to a ride or brushing, waiting for farrier etc, can I give chaff (currently use emerald green grasstastic) instead of a hay net?
whilst she has hay out in the field there is no hay to use in a hay net. So she’s just stood not eating during this time.
i thought about the small bales of haylage but it wouldn’t be used up in the used by time.
thanks

I think it depends on your horse and how long she is in for. If she has any tendency to being overweight or getting laminitis then the grasstastic is more calorific than hay and probably has a higher sugar content too. Can you not just buy a small bale of hay for this purpose - it would work out cheaper as well!

She’s never in for very long. yes I did think I’ll just buy a couple small bales and she can pick at if she wants. hopefully the person that delivers the round bales has small bales as well.
