Roughly how much are people paying (per month / generally) ...obviously slightly more over winter if in / less in summer if out.. for hay and bedding

Also muck heap removal!

I am lucky that I have storage, so 5ft round hay was £30 off the field, and straw is usually about £15 for a round, but I am still using last years. In my fields the grass is still growing slowly, so they are not getting much.
What has made my eyes pop is the cost of bagged feed. Local store D&H pasture mix, £23.99, which me look online at feed prices, I expected them to go up but not by so much.

I get hay incl in my livery but ours is £50 for a big 6 string, and bedding is included too but when I buy a bale of shavings on top of the 2 we are given per week it's around £12 a bale give or take £1
Bedmax is cheaper but it's also not very absorbant

Round bale of hay delivered is £40 which lasts 6 large horses 7 - 8 days at the moment. Large 4 string straw or large round is £30 delivered. Three horses on it with full muck out each day. A bale lasts 3 - 4 weeks. Other horses are on chopped rape straw and get an average of a bale each per week at £10.50 a bale.

Muck heap removal is free from the local farmer but I give him a case of wine as a thank you but it is very hard to get him to commit to doing it. As the tractor has to come across the field the ground needs to be hard. I tend now to use a local co tractor who charges £175 per large load.

I don’t like to think about it .. but £40 a round bale of hay. But mines delivered straight to the field so saves us a massive hassle. I have usually 2 into the paddocks and 2 for the yard a week. It makes me anxious thinking about the cost.

I didn't mention how much I use, if it's not written in black and white it's easier to ignore...... but 2 bales per week 🙈 and a round of home made haylage
My OH keeps saying, when we only have 2 ponies, as if that's ever going to happen 🤣

A friend from down south said she was paying £20 - bargain!

haylage included in livery, £5 a small bale of straw and £9.75 champion shavings…each horse costs about £60 a month in bedding

£40 for a 6 string bale of straw which lasts two 2 months. Large bale hay £30 lasts 14-21 days between the two depending on how much they get during the day. Both from the farm so no delivery charges. If I order meadow hay in I pay £50 for the same size.

It’s hideous isn’t it! 2 of mine have gone on a diet today - but just cut their hard feed. And it’s not even wet or cold yet! 😬

I have mine on straw . I get thru approx 20 big bales of straw a year and they cost me 35 quid each. I get thru 3 large round bales of haylege a month at this time of year and have 7 horses in that. Haylege is cheap this year for me and worked out about 16 per bale to bale our own. We have plenty of storage .

Oh I read that as one horse and was thinking 😬

Large round hay £30/£35 depending how much you flirt 🙄
Large round straw £15
Large round haylage £35 on site or £45 from feed store
Small bale hay from the feed store £5 per bale

Large round hay lasts me about 2 weeks for 3 horses

Large flake Shavings have gone up to £10.50, usually one per week per horse plus sawdust or wood pellets underneath.

Live out, no grass left. (Winter paddock is one acre).
£35 a round bale - went up last year as farmer ran out and had to source hay in.
Lovely bales.
Go through a bale every 10 days ish.
3 horses, x2 14.2hh and one 15.1hh.

I generally figure for one bale per horse per month. So around 6 bales per horse over winter.

Summer paddock is 3 acres and no hay needed then. (One 14.2hh stays on a track in one acre field and other 2 get the 3 acres).

I have a 16.1 horse. At this time of year he is out in the day. I use 2 small bales of hay a week @ £4 each and a bale of Hunter shavings every 10 days @ £13. In the summer he is out at night on good grazing I use one bale of hay a week and a bale of shavings every three weeks.
