How much do you think your horse costs you per week/mth to keep for bedding and feed per mth? Intrigued to see how much it differs from person to person x say a 16hh TB

Hiya, Haylage is part of the livery at the yard I keep mine (DIY) so can use as much as I want. I use straw for bedding and that costs £24 - £32 (depends on size) for a bale that lasts me about 3 months, I only top up there beds once a week as there both pretty clean.

I feed both of mine spillers original balancer and Mollichaff extra so thats about £30, add the odd free apples I get from orchard (1's a 15hh arab, the other a 16hh TB X)

So, roughly they cost about £40 per month in bedding and feed.

I am guessing a 16hh TB could weigh roughly 575kg... maintainance wise = 10kg of hay a day (1.75% of bodyweight). Our bales weigh approx 22kg each = 3.2 bales a week @ £5 a bale... £70 a month (14 bales)

For the bedding - 2.5 bales of straw a week if not messy or wet @ £2.50 a bale = £6.25... £27.50 a month (11 bales)

I have a 16.2 TB and i'm on DIY, we order our own straw in from the local farmer and i usually put £70 a month in the kitty tin, its all divided up as to how much you use and im usually between £60-65 a month.

Our haylage bales are £30 (large round ones) and straw is £18 (large round ones)
