So when going for an overnight stay at a show (in this case it will be 2-3 nights) where do you put the hay bales you take?

I have a single trailer so am struggling of where to think to put them. I could probably fit one bale in front of the trailer. But how would you secure it down? I have heard of people using bungee tyes in this case, but having studied the front of the trailer over the weekend I have no idea how you would hook them on to secure  i can not see any places to hook the bungees to.

So how do you do it? Or am i just totally missing the obvious, which is quite likely :o

Thanks

most shows where you stable have a local supplier for feed and bedding
I'd contact the secretary as they would have advice

I've no idea with a single trailer but I wouldnt use bungees - what if one sprung loose - it could take your horses eye out.
Do you have a roof rack on your car?

Please take good care using bungee ties. A friend lost an eye when the metal hook end hit her directly in it. Makes me wince using them now :( I prefer mini rachet straps at least they cannot ping.

ouchies... not liking the idea of the pinging back at me nor the horse!

Have already contacted the secretary, we have to supply our own. They are suppling the bedding only.

No roof rack, although had thought the other day that would be a good idea! Something maybe to look into for future use, but do not really have the money to get it fitted before the show.

Can you get any hay bale bags? Maybe I could squeeze one into my car (hopeful thinking maybe with all the other bits and bobs! lol)

How else does everyone else secure hay bales to into the front of their trailer. Even with the ratchets straps, where do you tie them to?

You can buy a hay bale bag that fits a whole small bale in, not sure where I go mine from but save a hell of a lot of mess in the car!

Do you have room for a wheelie bin? When we went camping we scrubbed one of ours out, stashed a bale of hay, rugs etc in it then tied it in under haynets at front (added bonus you can wheel round to stable!) we have metal brackets in front of trailer we could strap it too but I guess if you had the flat straps with the ratchet that wouldnt jam the doors you could feed it out the jockey door on one side and ramp the other then tie outside round the front.

If you could fit it in your car you could just wrap it in multiple bin bags and tape, and then just rip it off when you get there...?

Alternatively you can buy small bags of haylage at places like countywide, if you're not desperate to have hay.

I have a 2 horse trailer and when taking my horse by himself, I take 1 hay bale for a 2 night trip. I just put the it in the spare bay next to him. It's heavy enough not to move at all.
If I am taking 2 horses, I take 2 hay bales of compressed hay in a bale bag inside the car.

If we are using my friends float (3 horse angle load) we put all the hay in the front of the float and if the float is full, we chuck it in the back of the ute. Again, its heavy enough to not move at all when being transported provided it it stacked correctly.

Wrap a small bale up in cling film and put it in the car?

Beg an almost empty roll of bale wrap off your friendly farming neighbour and wrap a small bale up with that.
