Hi, I recently saw hay balls being sold in my local feed shop, never seen them before! I was thinking about putting one on my Christmas list for our 11.3hh pony.

Does anyone own one, are they any good?

Thanks

Think it depends on your horse/pony and where your going to use it. I recently got given one as a gift and my horses push it around about, pull a few bits out then leave it once it's difficult to get out as they can't be bothered and get frustrated with it. Also my fields are too muddy to use it now and it's quite big for the stable and they tended to trash the beds when they used it so I've given up. Maybe if you had a more greedy pony it would work better than I have found it does for us. Unless you have very short bits of hay it can get very difficult for them to get out once it's no longer full and pushed to the edges

I have one and love it! Pony isn't using it much at moment as has loads of grass in field during the day. Once grass goes, every piece of hay will be gone out of it!

I bought one for my youngster, a few weeks ago, for in the stable. He loves it and keeps him occupied. As mentioned above it is a bit hard on the bed as they move around a lot.

Great, thank you everyone for your help. I think my pony will like it and use it as he is greedy. I will pop it on my Christmas list!

both my horses love them, they have to share it alternate nights (guess what's on my Xmas list) filling it is a bit of a pain especially for my overweight section B who is on soaked hay but it does slow him down a lot at night
