Does depend on you horse's table manners though, my mare promptly hoiks all her haylage out onto the floor, it is handy for putting her rugs on though!
My friends horse eats from it so nicely and doesn't ever spill any. YO is making her own for hers, much cheaper and just as effective.
Definitely depends on the horse. I bought them for my lot thinking it would be the end to filling numerous haynets. Big mare used hers as a perch, it didn't last long having 800kg of horse sitting on it
. Big gelding refused to eat out of his
. Young mare just gets everything out of hers and mixes it in with the bed and old pony does eats out of his pony size one occasionally without getting it all out. So I went back to haynets.
Mine both have haybars and I do like them. However they both pull the hay out still and eat off the floor ! I bought mine from a local feed merchant and they were cheaper than from the actual people that make them, which seemed a little odd so it may be worth shopping around. Someone else on here suggested haynets tied to a ring inside the hay bar, so it keeps the hay in and slows the feeding down, so I will probably get round to doing that sometime this winter.
If you go onto www.equineadvertiser.co.uk and click on tack/equipment, there was someone selling some ones surplus to requirements at about £40 inc postage. Not sure if they still have any left but might be worth a look.
