Was talking to a neighbour yesterday and like me she is finding feeding her native hay is causing squits He is fine on the grassnuts and grass chaff but as soon as hay is given he gets the runs He is a dales. The other one is a fiord and mine are highlands so all chunky natives. All getting stinky tails that are too cold to wash properly :-/

Mine have rationed hay now but would like them to have a bit more Any ideas soaking not an option as they wont eat wet hay at all and as I have tried just leaving it to eat when they get hungry enough we got to less than two poos in 24 hours so had to reintroduce dry

All horses will get the squits if diet changed rapidly. Mine gets runny farts even if I change a bale!

Just introduce a little at a time over a period of aout two weeks to get the gut adjusted to the change in ph, consistency of the bolus and water content and add some brewers yeast or yea sacc to stabilise the gut bacteria. I swear by mint to sooth the stomach when diet changes occur.
