She has horse that can't eat haylage as it goes right through him and he ends up with diarrhoea and it stains his hind legs. The vet recommended moving him on to hay which they did but every now and again he gets a bout of diarrhoea. Nothing from his routine has changed - just random bouts with no warning.

He was getting a scoop of beet pulp, a scoop of 10% mix and a cup of balancer twice a day. It was recommended they take him off the beet pulp which might help his stomach - it didn't make a difference. They also swapped his feed over to a low sugar feed for horses with/prone to ulcers. Again this made no difference. He gets adlib hay.

He recently went out to grass for a months holiday and his stomach settled. No random bouts of diarrhoea. Even when moved from stable to grass the change in diet didn't upset his stomach.

Unfortunately he has to be stabled for at least part of the day as all year turnout isn't an option. Can anyone think of something else to try? Or have had a similar experience?

I have one horse that has suffered a similar problem. I have had her on Protexin Gut Balancer for about 6 months now and she is fine. Has changed yards to live with my rider, come home, away to shows etc - all potential triggers with diet change etc but so far so good.
