Hi guys, I would greatly appreciate it if you could recommend good hay feeders that:
1) Prevent hay being wasted
2) Does not pose risks for horses (legs or head getting trapped)
3) Are durable and last long
4) Can fit a whole bale of hay

Many thanks.

I bought a hay hutch last year but I hated it. Huge amount of wastage. I thought maybe it was just my horses. My ponies would pull hay out and make wee beds for themselves and then pee and poo on it. My friend had same problem with hers but they also scratched themselves on it so was flying about the field!
I sold mine to local lady and I suspect she had same issue as it lay abandoned in field! You can't put whole bale in either.
I would go for a ring feeder for horses

We use a similar product to this, with cross country jump ground anchors to keep it from being tipped over by scratchers.
Ours was made by a different local firm but they're quite common as covered sheep feeders.
The smaller holes make the hay last longer and not as liable to waste!

There have been a number of threads about different types of hay feeders on here but I'm not sure how you look them up so maybe some computer literate person will give you a link.
I feed hay in big round bales and use a couple of different feeders, I use metal round feeders, like a cattle feeder but with filled in sections between each horse on the feeder rather than bars that the cattle put their heads through, in a yard and in loose sheds. They are strong and sturdy and cope with up to 10 having 24/7 access but are heavy to move if you had them in a field and the ground around them got poached, fine if you have access to a tractor.
I also use a bale buddy if I want to put out a bale temporarily for a week or two before the horses come in and find them great with no wastage, I would usually have up to ten using it but have used it in a shed with just two when I had to put in a couple in the straw shed due to really bad weather and didn't want to buy another metal one and it worked fine. The bale buddy is just like a bag for a bale and keeps it together and dry especially if its not going to be eaten in a couple of days.
