I am looking into getting some hay/grass bricks for my boy to keep him occupied when he's stuck in his stable.

Which would you recommend that I can buy online and not in crazy quantities?

Ideally I'd like small ones that I can pop into a little hay net to slow him down. Nothing with Alfalfa or Molasses...just plain old hay/grass

Simple systems do a timothy grass one (Meadowbrix). Not sure if a net would slow a horse down, but I know it only lasted about 20 minutes (if that) with Nugz. Was about £14 for 20 bricks.

Halleys. There's a choice of 5-6 types and free delivery. I found them to last the longest as they were the most compressed least crumbly. Each one weighs 1kg so you know what your giving.

He is quite old so could also do with a little help keeping condition.

All the ones recommended to help with that have alfafa but I have been cautioned to avoid theses. What are peoples experiences with alfafa? Can you get enough to be unhealthy from a block a day?

He is in what I would describe as medium work

I don't feed alfalfa, however I got some Simples systems hay bricks and also the alfa bricks. My highly strung TB was no different on the alfalfa ones so I would feed them again.

Halleys have ones without alfalfa as it makes my fillys skin bumpy. And as the blocks are 1kg they used to send her skin wild. I think they have a Timothy hay one and a grass one which is the one I use.

It's all relative to the horse I think, some people's horses react badly to alfalfa others don't. Ebs was fine on it, Ben went footy on it.

They last longer if you put them in an Equilibium Vitamunch mini net :-) And hang it in the middle of the stable if you can!! Keeps my 2 youngsters busy for quite a while, 1 between them.

Personally, I wouldn't bother - my pony managed to polish off the one I got him to try in less than 20 mins

Try 2 mins with my natives!

Ha ha, you win but that was his one and only try I think he'd improve on that given practice :)

That was in one of those
