We paid £30 per 360kg bale last year - this would feed 4 horses 9 days.

Our supplier has not put up prices for this year as has had a bumper crop.

That's very cheap, is a Bale just for your use only?

It cost us this year just under £10 a big bale to cut/turn/bale/wrap - I can see that next year, prices for hay and hayledge are going to rocket :(

We've been quoted £30 for a 5' bale of good meadow haylage, £35 for top quality, which is often too rich for horses, will certainly be for our fatties!

Last year we paid £12 to have it made, wrapped and stacked. Local farmer and man who delivers our hay and straw say they expect there to be loads this year.

I know it isn't relevant, but I almost had heart failure yesterday when someone said he could get $110.00 for 1 round bale! That is just over 70 GBP.

People are panicking because we have had the weirdest weather, early Spring (like February) and no rain for 6 weeks now, everyone is feeding hay because there is NO grass - already.

Some parts were infested with Army Worms http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_worm
think locust like - and lost entire hay crops, thousands of acres - munched up!

Me, I am not worried, if I can get $100 for round bales then I have 50 in my barn that I will sell to any sucker who wants them, and I'll buy more hay in.
