Hi all, I’m on a DIY yard currently in the North West, on our yard we have to buy hay and shavings from the yard owner.
We have always had hay (£60 a bale), however without warning we started being given bales of very rich haylage instead of hay which I don’t want to feed as it heats my already very sharp gelding up and the other liveries don’t want to feed for similar reasons including horses getting fat on it.
We queried the change of forage and asked if we could go back to having hay but got told of we wanted to go back on hay it would be more expensive.
My question is, what are we all paying for hay/haylage currently? More than £60 seems steep to me even in the current climate but happy to be told I’m wrong!
