What percentage body weight would you feed on a maintenance level for a young horse in med work (30-40mins 4-5x pw) ?

Equally what hard feed would you give (if any) if said horse was grazing out no less than 10hours per day and at a good weight.

Assuming a 15.2 hh - 16-1 hh average sized horse: If grazing was good then I would probably feed 6 - 8 kg of haylage and just one low energy hard feed a day. Of course, this could vary according to how the horse kept it's weight and how much energy it had.

If grazing was poor then I would feed more haylage but keep the hard feed the same.

I tend to feed around 3% of bodyweight in haylage for youngsters or poor doers/ TB types and around 2% for good doers. I feed very little hard feed. This is assuming no quality grazing however as in winter mine are turned out in the all weather.
