How much do you pay for small rectangular bales of really good quality hay? I am looking to mix haylage with hay (horse getting fat) and will need to buy my own as yard has round bale haylage only. My horse coughs on anything remotely dusty and I can't soak as he wont eat. Could steam I suppose but prefer good hay.

£3.75 - really good quality, when I first got my horse (only 4 years ago) I paid £2.50 for really excellent hay and I remember paying £1 a bale if I collected!

I just called a local animal feeds store and they wanted £6.25 a bale!!! I think it might have been aimed at small animal market but even so. I know it is top notch hay but out of the question!!!

Our hay is excellent quality. We make it ourselves, but last year had to pay someone to bale it for us - £1 a bale. We also had to buy about 50 off the field, from a local farmer, as we bought a bigger horse and knew we'd be short. That was £1.40 a bale off the field.

This year, we hopefully will have a tractor by then (on the look out for one) and will do our own, no help needed. So free.

we have three acres cut, turned and baled for us, last year cost us 67p a bale and its lovely stuff. anything over £3 is a rip off although its probably more expensive this time of year when everyone is running out!

We paid between £3.50 and £4.50 in the winter, cause we had such a crap summer up here last year everyone was really short!
Paid £3.50 delivered last month though.

£2 per bale collected, but hay is getting in really short supply now.
