Ive seen the hay hutches advertised for feeding hay in the field which seem like a really good idea to help keep the ground/pasture in better condition than just putting it out on the foor. Was just owndering if anyone has got one/their experiences with them or wether there is a cheaper alternative (they are a bit pricey!) need to be suitable for two horses....

thankyou

i made a hay pillar for my mare, i brought some garden plastic wrap from homebase the green square hole plastic wire (see link below) it costs like £30 but u can make as many as you need, you basically cut them into rectangles, cable tie the corners and then thread the stuff that keeps you hay bales together, cant spell it so described it instead, just make sure you make them big enough to stuff hay in, found there was less left over and didnt kill any grass, hope this helps a bit.

Make one out of a 240litre wheelie bin . Easy to move - keeps it dry - fab cheap and simples!!

I would love to claim as my idea, but no it wasn't I just copied it. You need to cut a large hole at the front and bolt on some device like a hasp and staple to secure the lid - I added a staple at the fromt through which to loop a rope to tether it to a shelter or tree or post - ab fab!!! :D

Here's my beloved mare using hers and Barney his! (Cost me with stainless fittings about £50 for each - you can do it cheaper though)

What a brilliant idea!!

I do love wheelie bins!! :D Keeps the yard so much tidier now I put all my hay in them xx

Get yourself an old wooden packing crate :)

Thats what I did, It hold up to three big barrows of hay and is heavy enough that it wont blow away, wide enough that it cant be easily knocked over and light enough that you can empty it, prop it on the wheely and move it round the yard :)

Ill get pics of mines for you. Mines was a willowithes packing crate :)

Very easy to make something out of a couple of wooden pallets; Just need a saw and some bailer twine; Cut one pallet vertically and one horizontaly, tie the corners together and hey presto!
