Hi all,

Wondered if you would all be kind enough to share your wisdom?

Horse is wintering out for the first time ever and doing well.

Have one question regarding hay, I put a couple of sections out due to severe frost etc but he didn't eat it all and obv now its rained etc would you leave out or chuck?

I am in the process of sourcing a compost bin and using that.

All responses are appreciated!!!

I probably would leave it out now its there , but the main thing to say is that if he didn't eat it he didn't need it. He is obviously already getting enough to eat frost or not , save your pennies.

Hi, when I poo pick, I tend to scrape up old hay too. He won't eat it now it's been out there a few days. I think you're wise to put hay out on frosty mornings, we do too x

I have a good greedy very good doer that normally doesnt leave a scrap. If he leaves it and its not gone in the morning I know he has had his fill. If you leave it they will usually stale it poo it and then it ends up in a mush! I would clear it if you have time(just like I have not)!! Good to give advice I dont follow myself!! She says thinking of the circle hay laying on the grass!!
