Hay making experts - how much twine per bale?

Hay making or general hay experts - how much (in feet ideally) twine does each bale need?

My OH has left me in charge of making sure we don't run out of twine while baling this week. We've possibly 900 bales to make and having checked baler we've 2 1/2 packs of twice that say 12000 feet per pack

I'm guessing a bale is 4 foot long and a foot high so 10 foot per string x 2 is roughly 20 foot a bale - does that sound about right?

1 pack of 2 spools will do about 450 bales.

Perfect - many thanks, just 1 pack should be enough then.

Poxy mice nest in it if we store it over winter otherwise I'd buy loads!

Depends if it is sisal or poly,sisal 450 poly 550. Dont use old stock. There is nothing worse than baling a thousand bales and finding that the strings all snap .

Many thanks - good tip about not buying in bulk, I suspect my OH would just sell the horses if we baled it all then it all fell apart stacking!!
