Hay making

Hi, can anyone tell me how long I need to wait before I can start using my freshly baled hay? I have been told six months and a few weeks, which is correct?

It is safe to use after 6 weeks, although i use mine after 3 and have never had a problem. Would watch feeding to a laminitic though would be worth soaking it first as sugar and starch content will be high.

apparently its 6 weeks, I was told by a farmer.
