Hay or haylage?

I have been feeding haylage thro summer as my grass aint all that good and waiting for other field to grow grass for winter.

But what would you feed?
And which is better?

I dont know which is better, but the two natives get hay as there is less in it than haylage, and D gets haylage as hay makes him cough, (he wont eat soaked hay) and helps keep the weight on him better, though he does have hay on the odd occasion when he comes in at the mo as i havent picked up this years halage yet.

I guess it would depend! Feeding haylage atm as hay is so expensive around here and at a big yard so haylage is always fresh. But i would feed hay if horse could not tolerate high levels of protein, if i was weight watching or if it was a native.

Our yard only has haylage so that's what Genie gets. In winter she'll have 2 nets at night (not stuffed full I hasten to add), but she gets very little hard feed so comes through the winter nicely.

I prefer hayleage and mum is addicted to the smell of it and think shed go mad if i changed lol

Hay for the fat cob, haylage for the thin warmblood.

Both!

Hay on it's own makes the boy cough and too much haylege makes him have a runny bum. Mix it and everything is fine and dandy!

My warmblood is far too much of a good doer for haylage, and it turns him a bit loony. x
