It's been a while since I've bought hay in myself as I've been on livery so just wanted to get an idea from people what the going rate is now for small bale (traditional rectangular) and large round bale hay.

I am looking for hay which is of good quality (ie not dusty) but does not need to be 'good' in terms of calorie content as horse needs to be fed ad lib and is a good doer. In terms of types of hay what do you think would be best (seed, meadow etc) ?

Does anyone know of any good suppliers in Lancs area -preston area?

Thanks!

HI, I get all my haylage and straw from

http://www.westbyhall-haylage.co.uk/Jeni_Ball.html

They are very good and always good quality. Any problems and they will replace a bale. Give James a ring and tell him I recommended him.

Just got 10 small bales from Stanah for £4 per bale.

I have had problems with this supplier. They brought us a load of straw, it was horrendous and they didnt want to know and wouldnt change any of it !!! he also tried it on with prices.... (can tell you via pm!)... one of the drivers drove into a liveries wheelbarrow and was just going to leave it... he never realised he had been watched...
as a result, they lost a lot of custom from use as we go through a lot (have 30 horses on the yard!)

we are currently paying £3.50 a bale and its lovely, supplier changes it if its not quite right etc.
