What are people paying for hay?

We were asked for £6.50 today, per small bale, for absolutely rubbish hay with loads of dock stalks sticking out of it.

We wanted 50 bales; and they wouldn't budge on their price at all. So we drove away.

This is in East Devon.

Anybody got another private supply they'd be prepared to divulge??? (slice of coffee walnut cake plus home made elderberry wine on offer!!!). PM's welcomed.

What is everyone else paying for hay?

I must be very lucky then as I pay £20 for one of those huge bales!! (in North Devon) It lasts me ages and have only had to have 3/4 bales since september.

Another person at my yard pays £3.50/£4.00 for a small bale but gets a discount if she buys in bulk...

we were very lucky and placed a big order at the beginning of winter and we paid £30 for the big square bales.. these have now gone up to £50. Small bales were £3 ish... now at least £5.50. Fingers crossed for a good summer!!

My neighbour said the small bale hay at Tuckers Ashburton was £7.00 bale! I managed to get some 200kg bales, to start were £20 from local farmer, but after he had been talking! went to £30, still waiting on him, at the moment to deliver, but fear he may have watched Country file on sunday, when they were saying horse hay was £8 a bale, roll on spring!!! I sugest you have a drive round to local farmers to see if they will sell you some?

didnt make as much this year so not sure if they will sell to any one else

in short, yes, but introduce it gradually

Well i managed to get through a man (may i add who wants to be with me ) bales for £4.50 and they it's the best hay ever! so soft and the horses scoff it! that's a total bargain around here and i know he charges others £6.50 a bale.

I am in essex and paying £5 per bale, most of the feed shops in the area are £6 per small bale. It is ridiculous.

We have about 50 spare little bales in Dorset if that's any help. Would sell for £4 a bale.

local to me at Welshpool market [welsh borders] small bale hay is selling for £8 a bale .That is at the market,it then has to be transported,stacked and sold.
