Is there a shortage of hay in the SE? My yard manager is looking for the big rectangular bales and says she can't fine any. Does anyone on here know of any for sale?

Well, I called Frosburys yesterday about something else, and they advised they are only selling hay to registered account holders now. Also, max 5 bales a week per account for collection, or max 10 delivered. 6.50 a bale, more if delivered.

I looked at Rokers hay the week before last and tho the small bales were a good size, it was v short and v v average (I would be soaking it to be honest as not the best). 6.50 a bale then, if 10 or more purchased I think.

A good number of local suppliers stopped selling to non regulars a couple of months or more ago.

A little worrying if that's the case.

No hay in East Anglia at all. I’ve seen some small bales at 7pounds and large bales at 70 pounds ! Usually it’s 35 pounds. I’ve had to go onto haylage. But my supplier now run out.

I'd ask in the Regional Board for your area, you might have more success.

We are in the West Midlands and I was told yesterday by a rival hay supplier that hay is in short supply at the moment.
My own hay supplier only has a limited supply left, however I was able to obtain one at the same price as normal - £35.

Thanks. I was a bit surprised as I know the start to last summer was very dry but I thought it had then rained quite a bit and the grass had grown on.

Spring and grass growth has been very late in the SE. There was a lack of rain until a few weeks ago. Many areas had little grass growth until the rain in the last few weeks. No grass growth in fields means needing to feed more hay for longer this spring in the SE.

Blimey that's very expensive, they are £4.50 here for lovely smelling quality hay.
