Asking for my friend who is moving to near Pocklington in a couple of months time. There is very little hay of decent quality here in Cambridgeshire, the last load was 7 pounds per bale, although it is very nice. The rubbish is about 3 or 4 pounds.

She likes to feed old hay until about Christmas, so needs enough to see 2 horses through until then. Obviously she does not want to pay out that sort of money taking hay with her, if there is some available fairly locally for less than that. If however quality and quantity is also limited around Pocklington then she will fill up the trailer here and take it with her.

Any info on prices, availability or contacts of hay merchants would be great. Thanks.

She shouldn't have any trouble with finding nice quality hay around there. I know a lot of farmers in that area so could put her in touch with some if she has trouble; but I really don't think she will.

I don't know about Pocklington but I paid 2 pounds a bale for nice hay in Cambridgeshire (had to pick it up myself). If you're on the A14 northbound just before Fenstanton, there's a farmer there who sells to me - he has loads and I think he'd like to get rid of it so he can free up barn space.

Thanks Tia and Jencash - will pass this on.

Kit279 - Thanks, I know exactly where you mean - have had hay from there myself in the past. Will pass on the info to some others on the yard.
