For the next couple of months my mare is going to a yard to live out over the winter, except for extremely bad weather. However I have to bring my own hay and straw if needed and wanted to know how much everyone is paying ATM?
I've been on part livery for 2 years now and prior had hay/bedding/feed included so wouldn't like to estimate.
Another curious question, how much does your feed bill increase over winter if any, on friends yard an extra £25 a month in winter is charged for the increase in feeds given. Wasn't to sure about this one myself.
Any help or tips on keeping mare out over winter be appreicated.
Thanks.

my feed ect bill goes up by at least £100 a month in the winter,we have to buy our stuff of the YO and the straw is 3.75 a bale hay is 4.75 haylage 6.00 and chippings 8.00 a bag, though the farmer up the road was selling hay off the field last month for 10.00 for 4 bales so i would say that it just depends where you go,our local feed place the straw is 3.00 and the the hay is 4.00 a bale hope that helps,i am in surrey area

I was getting small bale straw for 3.75 a bale (that was june so likely more expensive now); I've just bought a large bale for 20 which apparantly is 10 - 15 small bales worth so even if equiv to 10 I've made a pretty good saving. I think worth shopping around! Hay is 40 a large bale but we get that from YO who makes his own.I'm in surrey.

Not too sure how much my bills increase as mine are in at night throughout the summer anyway.

I live in East Kent and pay £1.50 - £2 for a bale of Straw and £2 - £2.75 for hay which was cut in July (i.e. not rained on) and has been barned stored. They are both good sized bales. I would say it definitely pays to shop around and see what you can get. Go to your local tackshops and feed merchants as they always seem to have adverts up.

aran are your suppliers far away as the hay I'm getting is not brill & costing £4 a bale + £10 delivery for 30 bales. I'm near Epping in essex so not TOO far off herts borders??
