I have only just found out that Haygain have gone out of business. I have the big double chest steamer and need a new hose and some descaler. Has anyone been able to source spares. Also my hay is not steaming through. Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you solve it? Horses about to come in at night and I need my steamer working properly.
 
I recently ordered spares for mine. I got a new manifold unit.
I called them and ordered as not all parts are on the website. I would advise if you do buy spares check that the appropriate clips are provided for hoses. They weren’t included in the manifold kit but luckily hubby had some in his shed of requirement 😂

Re descaler, ordinary vinegar in the water will do this beautifully as it boils through a steaming programme.
Our reservoir is 5 litres, so add about one third of a bottle of vinegar to the steaming water every week / ten days. I used to run this through an hour’s steaming cycle, then rinse out before steaming the hay, but horses actually like the taste / smell, so now just run it to de scale with the vinegar whilst steaming their forage.
If your hose is furred up with limescale, that would affect how thoroughly hay is steamed: when we used to use a proprietary descaler, hose-furring was an issue, but the vinegar wheeze seems to have completely cleared that up.
 
The old Haygain company did used to sell replacement temp gauges, I enquired after one. About £50-ish IIRC.

Worth trying the new Haygain peeps, hopefully they still have spares.

What sort of vinegar did you use? The type you put on your chips or the white vinegar I use in my fly repellent?
