Finally my hay bar arrived this morning. In my rush to get to work I havent had time to copen it. I would really like to put it up tonight - the question is this - do they come supplied with the fixings or do I need to pop to b&Q on the way home from work??

They come with nothing! Get some really long screws/nails to fix it up with plus I drilled a couple of extra holes each side on mine as well & (touchwood) it's still standing!!!!

Another quick question - the fitting instructions say you can fit it 25mm/40mm above floor level for cleaning - is it best to fit flush to floor or slightly above?

Fit off the floor, so seeds and bits can be swept away. Mines fitted high enough to get a brush under, and my 15.3hh can still reach the bottom.

You need 4x large washers (approx 1") and either large Screws (and raw plugs if going into brick) or nuts and bolts, depending what you are fixing it to.

Mine is fitted about 6 inches off the floor and has a false rigid mesh bottom in it - so seeds etc fall thru, but hay doesn't - then I just shovel it out from underneath - incidentally, I also store the seeds in a big bin and use them to re-seed any bare patches n the fields - haven't bought any grass seed since getting the hay bar!! OH made and fitted false bottom....

Used to have a wood one at a previous livery yard - If you check past post someone posted a design a while back (with pictures and measurements

). Got mine new for £30 inc P&P off ebay, so don't think it would have been much cheaper to make my own, once I'd forked out for wood etc...

My friend uses one of those jumbo tubs (normally for field water) which works quite well.
