Hayfever tablets for horses

Has anyone ever given their horse Piriton or similar to alleviate hayfever type symptoms and if so, how much did you give?

Yes give a 545kg pony 10 a day. But them from your local pharmacy in packs of 500.

I've given my TB mare shop's own brand piriton, I think I gave her about 8-10 a day, she had hives all over her body and the piriton "cured" it in less than a day, amazing!

Thanks both - how do you feed them? Do you just add them to hard feed, or crush them?

Also, do you know what size the tablets are you feed? I don't want to get the dosage wrong.

Yep...worked a treat on my tb mare. I gave 12 4mg piriton a day but vet said I could give double that.

I just chuck them in his feed. He is a cob - eats anything ;-)

Same here - exactly the same problem. I got them in Aldi for 75p a pack (can't remember how many you get in a pack though )

My old gelding had an allergic reaction to something once, we never found out what caused it but the vet gave me Piriton to give to him. I think it was 10 tablets twice a day.
