Has anyone any experience of using hay steamers? I'm wanting to buy one but wondered if anyone has had any personal knowledge of them, there seems to be quite a price difference between the Haygrain and Happy Horse steamers.

... or you could buy a wallpaper stripper and a plastic bin and voila!
your own hay steamer which is just as effective but about 1/5 of the price of any other 'steamer' on the market!

I have a haygain

I looked into a wallpaper stripper and a wheelie bin, but I don't have enough time to faff with hay nets.

I love my haygain, its a really nice use friendly well made container. I just pop a whole small bale in shut down, fill with water and then have it set to go off at 5am.

I feed from the haygain onto the floor, so saves me around 30 mins a day if you had to deal with haynets, I don't have much free time so this worth paying extra for. There is no comparison to soaking, as no lugging haynets about, stinky water and my ability to cover myself with wet hay.

The happy horse new steamer that compares to the haygain has its spikes in a row, rather than the quad spikes that come equally off a central steam line. I cannot quite see how you would get equal 'cooking' with the happy horse. On the other hand it is a lot cheaper!

I use a hay steamer and its fantastic and the hat smells delicious! I'm not to sure what make it is..I know they had them at badminton this year and theres a new model...but definately worth it in my opinion!
