haylage and loose droppings

hi has anyone any idea what i can give my horse to stop him having a runny aftermath when he has pooed to put it bluntly it only happens when he is on haylage i know you will say put him on hay but this isnt an option as i will not feed the hay at our yard
 
Mines has the same problem - is your haylage at the moment particularly wet and smelly? We've had some nicer bales delivered recently which have helped no end.
 
Mine tend to start off the haylage season with loose droppings but their digestive system does seem to cope after a while so maybe it will sort itself out? The idea of probiotics sounds sensible.

I cut out all sugarbeet/ speedibeet from one of ours as he was quite bad and that helped too.
 
My horse gets very very loose droppings. Along with a high fibre diet I have to feed him NAF Pink Powder, this has probiotics in it and is the only thing that has worked so far.

He is fed haylage but the slightest change will leave his droppings loose for a day, even if my new bale is from a different batch than the last one. I do swear by the Pink Powder though, the small tub (about £12)will last you a month for a large horse.

I spent over a year with a horse with constantly loose droppings and tried almost everything.
 
I have the same problem with my horse. I give her hay and haylage (was on haylage before I bought her, Hay at my old yard (all they had) and now a mix at new yar).

She is really loose and smelly. Tried Naf Probiotics and Pink Powder. She seems worse on PP??

Is only fed chaff and a handful of pony nuts (very good doer!) with ad lib hay/haylage

Help!
 
My boy suffers from this. I have changed to hay but it didn't really make the difference. What did make a huge difference was that when he comes in from the field I gave him an extra feed that was mostly Dengie Hi Fi Good Doer and found this acts as an internal mopping up agent for his guts. Any time the grooms forget to give him his lunch I can always tell the next day as he's sloppy again.

Biotal equine gold!!!! really good stuff.... also have this problem with the elderly one of the gang.... but within 24 hours things seem to be a little firmer!
 
I have read that horses often get loose droppings with haylage because they arnt being fed enough, people think that they should feed less so it upsets the bowel, i feed haylage ad lib and have never had problems, just a thought.
