Opened my second last big bale of haylage today - mouldy. Opened last bale - even mouldier. £60 of haylage is sat rotting in the middle of the yard. So horses are snacking on the few bits of half decent stuff I could extract from the first bale and I am panicing. Thought I did so well to find this stuff a couple of weeks ago after ages ringing round and the first bale was lovely. What on earth am I going to do? Most of the horses live out and are on full hay ration all year as we don't get anything much in the way of grass. This is the equivalent of about half a bale of hay each a day or a little more, for 6 horses. I can't find any hay or big bale haylage anywhere near here (beds/herts). Tomorrow I shall go to the feed merchant and fill up the car with horseage at vast expense, which will last me 24-48 hours. What on earth am I going to do? If anyone knows of anywhere selling decent quality forage in the area, I'll be your friend for life! HEEEEEEEELP!!
