Ok. I buy round bales of haylage. 45 pounds each. Plus delivery. Not the massive ones. Probably size down. Think they are 3ft 6 ? However. I’ve gone through two suppliers now. And no one has any for sale. I can but 20 kilo bales for 5.50 each. How many do you think make up a round bale. I’m trying to sort out costs etc. I have no idea how many. It’s a nightmare at the moment.

£5.50 for the 20 kg bales is quite cheap. I asked in local wynnstay and they were over £7. I would reckon about 12 to a round bale, likely to be less waste.
Yes. They are cheap. The local tack shop is nearly 9 pounds now. If it’s 15 to a big bale that’s 82 pounds and I’m usually paying 45. So double. But there are no round bales available except Writtle who will only deliver 25 bales in one order. Which I haven’t got room for or the money at 1.125k!

For hay it is about right for the round bales (nice and easy to make but a total pain to handle on most yards) to be 50% of the price of the equivalent in small bales

So that sounds about right.

I don't know where you are but I have two Somerford 180kg square bales that you can buy if you can collect, or I can deliver locally to Macclesfield if you don't mind them split. They are mixed grasses, 2019 harvest but still smell and look lovely.
