My mare is usually on hay but she has been turning her nose up at it a lot lately and last week didn't eat hardly any, so, this week I have been mixing in 1 slice of haylage with her hay and hey-presto (no pun intended!) she is now eating it.

I am giving her about 1 1/2 slices of haylage a day along with 2-3 slices of hay.

How much haylage do you feed?

Ours is in kilos... we weigh it.

I feed 7kg in the morning and 7kg again at night... my in foal mare is scoffing the lot, but the youngster is probably only having 4kg in the day as she leaves a lot.

10kg of hayledge a night approx, and about 8kg over two days in his field. So about 14Kg a day, which is just under 1 large bale slice.

roughly how many slices is 7kgs? I am pretty sure that is more than I am feeding as I doubt if I could carry 14kgs down the fields with 2 feed bowls as well

Best way is as you say just keeping an eye on things!! My boy is on Ride and Relax, Alfa Oil and Balancer and looks really well, but I cut down hard feed first if he puts on weight. At the mo, he is on the max amount of hayledge he will eat.

no idea of weight.....

Two massive haylage nets jam packed at night and then about a slice of a massive bale chucked in the paddock during the day. (there is nowt in the way of grass left)

If he stays in he get two big nets for the day as well

ETS: he only gets happyhoof and sups for hard feed
