I have a rather fussy eater he is a connie and thinner than I'd like, they hay I have at the moment is ok but not brilliant, and although he gets adlib hay he never eats a great deal of it. I am looking for better hay, but would haylage put on more weight than hay?
Thanks
PS is anyone knows of any really nice hay for sale in the Shrewsbury area I would appreciate it.:p

It's all a matter of comparing quality. A very good quality hay is probably better than a haylage of similar quality. A horse doesn't need to eat as much of the hay to get the same DM intake. But a good quality haylage is probably more palatable (closer to grass) and easier to chew. My horses pig out on haylage - I doubt the older ones (20+) would eat enough hay to stay well covered.
