Over in Ireland my supplier told me that just to make a round bale, even before he sells it will cost him €48 each. I dread to think what it's going to cost to buy.
I have heard from farmers and think it was printed in the farmers guardian that to make a bale will be around £22 by the time you take in all the costs. Not sure what that means for the price yet, probably will be very dependant on grass growth. I would suggest with the weather we are having seeing a report of the quality if you do not see the field.
Having seen many do 1st cut silage, the quality is going to vary massively as some went to seed if they missed the first window. A lot of farms have made a lot but think quality will be down compared to the farms that managed to get in early where quantity will be lower but quality should still be high.
