having failed to find some decent hay, Ive bought in some big bale haylage. Ive got 6 horses (yard neighbour is now sharing it too) so Im hoping it will last the full 5 -7 days. Ive noticed that the yeast has increased on it already... its kept in a cool dark hay barn... what do i need to look out for as Im paranoid about colic!

I was always told you should use up haylage within 5 days of opening it, and quicker in hot weather. As samp says heat and smell are the best indicators, yeast is generally ok.
