HAYLAGE & STOMACH UPSETS....SUPPLEMENTS??

Hi all,

My horse has an upset tummy caused by the changeover to haylage (Hay is not an option as not available where we are). We had the same problem last year and used 'equine -gold biotal' to no avail unfortunatly. Pink powder no use either. Can anyone suggest a supplement worth trying?

I had the same problem last year and started on Naf Haylage Balancer towards the end of the feeding season, it did improve but i'm wasn't totally sure if it was because he was feeding less or the balancer was actually doing some good.

My vet recommended Protexin Bio Premium which I now have a pot of an am waiting to start to use, so we will see. If that doesn't work I will go back to the vet and ask what else to try, I think they can give them some sort of tablet. x

Isn't Naff hay balancer pink powder? I would 2nd Coligone, I think it is one of the few supplements that actually does what it says on the packet.

just to clarify- loose dropping arent really the problem, its more the wind and watery liquid which is more often than not projectile!!! (sorry!)

Same sort of response from my boy on haylage! Not pleasant & he lost condition really quickly. Put him on NAF Haylage Balancer which has sorted him out, really worked for us and know of atleast 2 others who have had the same results.

I'm not generally a fan of supplements but I will admit to being impressed with NAF haylage balancer, will be using it again this year when we go back onto haylage.

FDC it is different to Pink Powder, certainly a different price (!) and I think claims to have some kind of absorbent clay in it (never really read the package!).

My horse had exactly the same problem. Pink Powder (maximum dosage) works for her.

I have had the occasional horse that just could not tolerate haylage so put it back on hay and it would be fine, but not an option for you? Are you on a yard that does not have hay?

Horse on our yard had something similar. But his got that bad he wa son anti biotics. Vet suggested mixing it with some straw to bung him up abit.
It did seem to work

Maybe consider adding a probiotic such as Protexin.

Do naf haulage balancer, they've just launched a money back guarantee on it. It's really good and you've got nothing to lose! Worked a treat on my youngster!

Naf haylage balancer and make sure you use the dose it says on the tubat least for a loading time. Is it just your horse....if all the horses are like that I would be looking at getting the haylage tested to make sure there is nothing wrong with it!

I used to give my last horse Baileys Digest Plus for this reason - always got an upset tummy when switching to haylage or spring grass. It always sorted him out within a day or two.

I also like Protexin Gut Balancer.

Tried everything, pink powder useless, Diarizze (sp) good for a week or so then useless, haylage balancer..expensive and useless.

Ended up grasping at straws and added Brewers Yeast and finally something that worked!! Half the cost of all the other rubbish too.
