can you soak it? my livery provides unlimited haylage for winter however i have a good doer cob who doesnt need to put on any weight so im worried the haylage will make him put on weight, is it possible to soak haylage as you would hay? and if so for how long to get the sugars out?

i am already double netting and thats with hay! lol i would be charged to store the straw ( we have a looooovely YO :P) so ideally would just like to try with the haylage!

My vet told me that Haylage can be soaked but to do it just for a few hours as it will start to ferment! It also needs rinsing off! I am going to soak my haylage this year as our yard sells it, so cheaper and easier than sourcing hay! I think I'm going to soak mine at home during the week so I can soak it for 2-3 hours without having to hang around yard! yard is also on a water metre whereas my house isn't.

yeah thats what i was worried about leaving it in too long and it going mouldy or something! glad it can be done then will be much easier than trying to get any hay round here, the hay is sometimes more expensive than haylage!
